PATHWAYS

Health & Wellbeing

Health & wellbeing are essential foundations for thriving communities. In many of the remote coastal & island regions where Atlas Pearls operates, access to healthcare, nutrition support, hygiene resources & preventative health education can be limited by geography, cost & availability of services.

Through our Health and Wellbeing pathway, Atlas Pearls supports community-based initiatives that improve access to practical health support and strengthen local resilience. Our work includes food and hygiene assistance, partnerships with healthcare providers, maternal and child health programs, menstrual health education, and healthcare access through the Alyui Clinic.

These initiatives respond to local needs and reduce barriers that can affect health, education and participation in community life. By supporting preventative programs and essential services, Atlas Pearls helps communities access information, resources and care that contribute to wellbeing outcomes.

Partnerships are central to this approach. Working with healthcare providers, community organisations and specialist partners allows us to extend the reach and quality of our support, while helping ensure programs are locally relevant and delivered with care.

  • Impact Project: Maternal, Child and Community Nutrition

Good nutrition is foundational to health, learning and long-term community wellbeing. In the remote coastal and island communities where Atlas Pearls operates, families can face practical barriers to consistent nutrition, including income pressures, transport limitations, food availability and access to health education.

Through our Health and Wellbeing pathway, Atlas Pearls supports nutrition-focused initiatives for children, pregnant women, elderly community members and people with disabilities. These activities are delivered in collaboration with local health centres, government partners, community leaders and NGOs, helping ensure support is responsive to local needs.

During the reporting period, our nutrition support included rice donations for students and elderly community members, food hampers for people with disabilities, and nutritious meal programs for stunted children and at-risk pregnant women. These initiatives provide practical support to households while reinforcing the importance of food security, maternal health and child development.

Atlas Pearls’ maternal and child health work was initially shaped by a small-scale collaboration with the 1000 Days Fund, including nutrition and growth monitoring training delivered to community healthcare workers in Raja Ampat in the previous reporting period. In FY26, this support continued in a more practical, locally adapted format through the distribution of 1000 Days Fund Smart Charts and breastfeeding blankets across several communities in the NTT.

Education remained an important part of this work. Teams used the Smart Charts to support conversations with families and healthcare workers about growth monitoring, nutrition awareness and the importance of the first 1,000 days of life. Breastfeeding blankets were also provided to pregnant women and women with babies under two years old, offering practical support for mothers and caregivers.

These activities reflect a locally delivered approach to nutrition and wellbeing: combining food assistance, maternal and child health education, simple growth monitoring tools, and practical support for families during the critical first 1000 days of life.

    FY26 Outcomes

    • 10,911 kg rice donated
    • 60 food hampers donated to people with disabilities
    • 487 smart charts donated
    • 1,900 snack portions provided to children at community health checks
    • 3,192 meals provided to stunted children and at risk pregnant women
    • 306 breastfeeding blankets donated
  • Strategic Partnership: Perfectfit

Since 2023, Atlas Pearls has partnered with Perfectfit, an Indonesian women-led social enterprise working to improve menstrual health through education, reusable sanitary products and open conversations about women’s health.

The partnership responds to a practical and often under-discussed challenge in remote communities. Limited access to accurate health information, affordable sanitary products and appropriate hygiene facilities can affect girls’ confidence, wellbeing and participation in school. At the same time, disposable sanitary products create waste that can be difficult to manage in areas with limited waste infrastructure.

Through our partnership, Perfectfit brings specialist expertise in menstrual health education and sustainable product design, while Atlas Pearls supports program delivery through long-term relationships with schools and communities near our operations. Together, we are helping girls and women access practical resources, ask questions safely, and build confidence in managing their health.

During the reporting period, the program expanded from Alor, to Lembata and West Lembata. Education sessions were delivered in schools, covering menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, common myths and misconceptions, and the correct use and care of reusable sanitary pads. Teachers also participated, helping reinforce key messages and provide ongoing support for students.

1,470 reusable sanitary pads were distributed to 365 female students and 71 female teachers. All pads were provided in reusable storage bags and accompanied by soap to support safe and hygienic use. By combining education with reusable products, the partnership supports health, dignity and school participation while reducing reliance on single-use sanitary products.

In late 2025, Atlas Pearls also supported Perfectfit’s disaster relief response following severe flooding and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. Through a contribution of IDR 55 million, Atlas Pearls helped fund approximately 205 hygiene and dignity kits for women and girls affected by the disaster. The response was delivered in collaboration with Mercy Corps Indonesia, Human Initiative and Kopernik, helping provide menstrual products and hygiene essentials to communities living in emergency conditions.

    FY26 Outcomes

    • 436 women and girls reached
    • 1,602 pads distributed
    • 205 hygiene kits for emergency relief provided
