About Atlas Pearls

Over the past 30 years, Atlas Pearls a listed company, has become one of the world’s largest producers & distributors of the highly sought-after, white & silver South Sea pearls.

  • Operating across 8 farming locations throughout the South Seas the Company employs more than 1,000 people & harvests between 500,000 and 600,000 pearls each year. Atlas Pearls commenced farming in 1993 with its’ first farm located in Kupang - East Nusa Tenggara and has since gone on to establish a total of 8 farming sites. These locations stretch from the national parks of East Java and as far east as Alyui Bay, Raja Ampat.

Atlas Pearls operates on the fundamental principles of producing one of the most valued South Sea pearls through ethical, sustainable, and non-extractive processes.

Through structured breeding programs the company is able to maintain a supply of healthy, managed oyster stocks which can then be transported to different farm sites where they grow into healthy mature oysters ready for pearl production.

The movement of oysters between farm sites also enables stock to be positioned in the best possible conditions for their growth, diversifying the risk of naturally occurring events such as cyclones and flooding.

South Sea pearl farming is a delicate balance of nature and nurture as the company continues to strive to supply the best quality pearls to the market whilst developing a positive environmental footprint.

Atlas Pearls has a longstanding commitment to supporting our villages, stakeholders, and communities around our farms. Recognising our role as both neighbours and key employers in our operational areas, sustainability has long been an important aspect of our business operations and values. 2024 marks an important milestone in these efforts with the formal structuring of our approach to sustainability, recording and reporting. This will build on the foundation of existing data concerning our environmental impact and ongoing environmental initiatives as well as our social considerations and management systems.

  • Atlas Pearls has a longstanding commitment through our sustainability programs to support local communities and maintain strong relationships with all of our stakeholders. Building on our existing sustainability efforts with the aim of improving transparency and monitoring our operational impacts on the environment and local communities we have established formal sustainability management and reporting processes.

To achieve this we undertook a process of engagement with internal and external stakeholders to understand the topics of importance and relevance to our business. Through this process, we identified several key Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics of priority to our stakeholders. These topics helped form the foundation and structure of our sustainability program moving forward and provide clear topics for data collection and reporting into the future.
