World Day for Safety and Health at Work
Strengthening a Culture of Care at Atlas Pearls
Each year, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work serves as a global reminder of the importance of protecting the wellbeing of workers across all industries. It highlights the role that strong safety systems play in preventing workplace injuries and illnesses, while fostering resilient, healthy working environments.
For Atlas Pearls, this is not a one-day focus. It is embedded in how we operate, every day.
Operating across remote coastal and marine environments presents unique challenges. Offshore work, vessel operations, and diving activities require not only robust systems and procedures, but a workforce that is highly trained, aware, and prepared. In these dynamic environments, safety is not static. It is an active, ongoing commitment.
Over recent years, Atlas Pearls has made significant progress in strengthening its health and safety practices across all operations. This has been driven by a clear focus on continuous improvement, ensuring that systems evolve alongside the needs of our people and the environments in which we work.
Building Strong Foundations for Safety
A key part of this progress has been the establishment of dedicated Health, Safety and Environment leadership. This includes central oversight, supported by HSE officers embedded at each operational site, ensuring that safety is managed both strategically and at a practical, day-to-day level.
Enhancements to incident reporting processes have improved visibility of risks, allowing teams to respond more effectively and learn from each event. Alongside this, ongoing workforce training and capability building have helped foster a more consistent and proactive safety culture across all locations.
These systems are designed not only to reduce the likelihood of incidents, but to create an environment where every team member feels equipped and supported to work safely.
Turning Systems into Action
Training plays a critical role in bringing safety systems to life.
At Atlas Pearls, practical, site-based training and drills ensure that procedures are not only understood, but can be applied in real-world situations. Regular exercises such as firefighting, first aid, and man overboard drills help reinforce critical skills, strengthen team coordination, and build confidence in high-pressure scenarios.
Training also extends beyond immediate physical safety. Programs include infectious disease awareness and mental health support, recognising that wellbeing is broader than workplace risk alone.
Over the past 12 months, this commitment to capability building has delivered measurable outcomes:
1,420 hours of health-related training
3,009 hours of safety training
More than 3,500 training attendances across the workforce
These figures reflect not only the scale of investment, but the active participation of our people in building a safer workplace.
Our commitment is simple: to ensure that every person who works with us returns home safely, every day.
Supporting People, Strengthening Performance
Health and safety are fundamental to sustainable operations. By investing in strong systems and a capable workforce, Atlas Pearls supports both individual wellbeing and long-term business performance.
This approach aligns closely with global sustainability priorities, including:
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Both goals recognise that safe, secure working environments are essential to building resilient businesses and communities.
A Continued Commitment
World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made, but also to reinforce the importance of maintaining momentum.
At Atlas Pearls, this means continuing to invest in our people, strengthen our systems, and embed safety into every aspect of how work is planned and delivered.
Because ultimately, our commitment is simple: to ensure that every person who works with us returns home safely, every day.
