Healthy Homes, Healthy Future: National Health Day in Action

  • We decided to celebrate our 30 year anniversary, by giving lasting gifts to our local communities. Each of our farm sites had the difficult task of deciding on one much needed community project to put their time and budget towards. For our Alyui Bay team it was the local healthcare clinic or ‘Pustu’ in Selpele. Today we handed back the refurbished clinic coinciding with National Health Day Indonesia.

National Health Day (Hari Kesehatan Nasional) in Indonesia emphasises the importance of health awareness and access to healthcare for all citizens. This day is a time for reflection on the nation’s progress in health services and an opportunity to highlight the ongoing challenges faced, particularly in remote regions where limited infrastructure, accessibility issues, and a shortage of resources can make healthcare challenging to maintain and improve.

This year, we participated in the National Health Day celebrations in Selpele Village, organised by the local Puskesmas. In line with the theme “Transformasi Kesehatan untuk Indonesia Maju” (Health Transformation for an Advanced Indonesia), we participated as judges in a Healthy Home Competition to promote cleanliness and health standards at home. All participating families received a packet of cleaning supplies, and we provided three larger prizes for the winning homes.

  • Remote communities like Selpele Village often face unique health challenges due to limited access to resources and public health education. Promoting home hygiene and environmental cleanliness, the Healthy Home Competition aimed to empower families to maintain healthier living spaces, a vital step toward preventing diseases and promoting overall well-being.

In the spirit of community service and sustainability, some of our staff also volunteered to conduct a beach clean-up in Selpele, symbolising our commitment to ecological and communal wellbeing and instilling a shared sense of responsibility and pride among community members.

We were excited to mark National Health Day by officially reopening the renovated Pustu (local health clinic) in Selpele. This project, initiated to celebrate Atlas Pearls’ 30th anniversary, highlights the importance of accessible healthcare for the village. The upgraded clinic is now better equipped to provide essential services such as maternal and child health care, basic treatments, and preventive health measures. This renovation is a testament to our ongoing commitment to community health and sustainability, ensuring that essential health services are more accessible and effective for the residents of Selpele Village.

Collaborating with local health authorities and community members demonstrates our dedication to creating lasting, positive impacts. By partnering with the Puskesmas and supporting community-focused initiatives, we strengthen local healthcare services and foster a healthier, more sustainable future for the community.
